I do not know what is the deal with all these commentators (including professional services review) who claim it is the best biography of Jimi Hendrix. This statement is wrong, and I can only assume they are personal friends of the author or those who have been paid hype his book. As a biography of Jimi Hendrix, I would rank this book as “good” or even “very good”, but certainly not “excellent” or “exceptional”. After reading this book twice, I fell on the hardness of my first test, and I apologize to the author. However, the truth, we are all tired of the endless hyping of companies in each new product as the “greatest” this or that. It is to live a claim is very difficult, in this case, given that a number of well-written bios of Jimi Hendrix are currently available.
, would have called it “Jimi Hendrix – The Early Years” and would have finished with Chas Chandler, Jimi met in 1966 (about page 153 of 370 total pages of text). Honestly, the book has many strengths. It is a pleasant and informative reading in a sympathetic perspective written. The author has an impressive number of people, many of which are on disk before been questioned. It has a huge amount of new information about the early years of Jimi (childhood in Seattle, years in the army and street hustle in New York) other than the BIOS – probably due to the fact that he is a resident of Seattle native Jimi and was in a position to their friends and family members at the beginning of access. In fact, the cover of Jimi years is certainly the highlight of the book – he has a lot of holes and clears a ton of confusion, misunderstanding, half truths and lies outright (including some created by him Jimi) and therefore worth the purchase serious for fans of Jimi Hendrix. There are many fascinating and unusual pictures of Jimi and his early years in the American army. The book also shows a number of previously unchallenged Jimi personal relationships, including several female friends throughout his life, never gone before on record.
The problem is that once the book Jimi notice it is considerably thinner Celebrity years and who earlier biographies of Hendrix, that most of the basic information that connects this book has read, is is closed (and simplified) from other biographies, articles and interviews (the quotes, but not quoted). The period of 1966-1970 is a rather superficial reading, that many important details of the music and ignores biographical and can not be regarded as a serious biography written about Jimi Hendrix. If you want to compare it to a different BIOS Hendrix, it is very similar to the sound of Jerry Hopkins 1979 “Hit and Run” – but it is true, much less sensational and far more tastefully written, and respect. No disrespect, but with all the other BIOS Hendrix sound is, I suggest starting here. In my humble opinion the best written and best-studied books about the life and / or music by Jimi Hendrix are:
Kramer; / McDermott, “Hendrix: Focusing”
Murray: “Crosstown Traffic
Shadwick:” Jimi Hendrix: Musician “
Brown:” Jimi Hendrix: The Final Days “
Shapiro / Gleebeck” Jimi Hendrix: Electric Gypsy “McDermott
/ Kramer / Cox:” Jimi Hendrix: Sessions “
Valkhoff:” Eyewitness 1968 “Eyewitness 1969/1970″
Roby, ” Black Gold: The Lost Archives of Jimi Hendrix “
Kali: The Fellowship of Jimi Hendrix”
The personal accounts by Noel Redding (“Are You Experienced”) Kathy Etchingham (“Through Gypsy Eyes”) and Sharon Lawrence (“Jimi Hendrix: The Man, the Myth, the Truth”) are a bit painful, but as a valuable read. David Henderson, “Excuse me while I kiss the sky” is false, but also provides a valuable insight into the life of Jimi and his African-American context (which most biographers have to ignore tend). And Mary Willix of “Letters From Home” provides much information about the youth of Jimi. On the basis of new information about the early years of Jimi’s book Mr. Cross would fit well into this second category.

A bit longer on the musical legacy of Hendrix – the influence of the right place to present to his day – but the book of the SA quite extraordinary, filled with heartbreaking stories of childhood and a wonderful selection of fascinating legends of music, plus an overview of some his musical creations.
The book also gives readers plenty of reason to want to help someone to Hendrix could stop this deadly spiral into addiction. (The book is not convincing to anyone who take drugs as a hobby Certainly not..)
The research is pretty amazing, and the compelling writing. I recommend it.

Now, how do I start? Let’s start with the face of it, most fans of Jimi Hendrix is a bit obsessive when it comes to him. And we all have our own opinion about him, his music and his life. And it’s difficult to accept for some of us, any deviation from our beliefs. I like the idea when it comes to Jimi, all you really need is to know about him to find in his music. His hopes, his fears, his love, his demons.
That being said, I always enjoy reading and Jimi as he lived and how he makes his music. So, I loved the book by Mr. Cross. While some criticize him because he does not dive deep enough into the music and I like Jimi in a roundabout way he thinks just that Jimi’s life, all his experiences in childhood, his life on the racetrack Chitlins, his struggle for recognition as musicians all contributed in some way with his music and how he approached his career and his songwriting. Now this book can not go into much detail when it comes to the technical aspects of his music, but that’s okay, because there are many other excellent books that are just that Jimi.
I think this book is well written and informative when it comes to Jimi childhood. It seems that since the beginning of Jimi rely on the kindness of neighbors and relatives. I can not imagine how he had as a child, and I can not guess at what he did and how they shaped his life Jimi. This part of the book was very sad. One thing is clear, however, depends Jimi life by chance or serendipity in its decision. I think he knew no other way. He thought that things would eventually work. And to the author in his conviction that Jimi was also through his music and life that allows him, when he caught during his childhood and youth in Seattle was. Music from this life saved, but I suppose that nothing could save him later. He had talent, there is no doubt. There is talent in music, but no change in the way of talent your life, even if it was clear very destructive.
I think I’ll keep reading books about Jimi, because it thinks a part of me that if I continue to read, I can understand, but probably never. There will always be a part of Jimi that mysterious and hidden, and it is after all how it should be.

When I noticed that the author was not there during the time Jimi played, I almost wrote it off on that basis. This was a big mistake.
My very special friend, Glenn, won two tickets to Jimi in Madison Square Garden to see, and invited me along. The music was incredible. I still remember All Along the Watchtower, and much of what is on Electric Ladyland. The stage was in the middle of the house, and he turned slowly. To keep off the matter still Wierda, tons of images in motion flash. I have often thought, Jimi must be unpleasant, turn to such a stage and nothing has been flashing on all of the camera, were carried out, as it was in the circus, and when the book arrived in the exhibition, he confirmed my suspicion.
The second time, even with my friend, we went to see what made as the “Festival for Peace in the account” at Madison Square Garden, but fortunately this time was the scene at the end of the floor and fixed. Jimi only played a few songs, and I was absolutely blown away with a smile ear to ear. I wish you all were there, as an attempt to explain that the experience is not to do in words. After a few songs, Jimi’s guitar fell on the floor and walked off the stage. I never understood what the problem because it seemed weird, was. The book touches on that show as well and gives a preview.
When I began reading this book, I was a little from all the information, turned to the family of Jimi and years behind very young, but this detail was important to have a good background very much for understanding that have followed, we found the choice of Jimi, Jimi made, and the person, not the stars.
The book is an excellent starting point for the departure or arrival, moreover, for one seeks to know more about Jimi. So many people who knew Jimi mainly though, were extremely generous to share these intimate details. This book takes you, bringing the past into the present, leaving you feeling as if you were there every step of the journey.
< , br /> The details in this book are simply incredible. The time in England, Jimi, personal relationships, friends, fans, colleagues spent muscisians share stories. Wow!
Jimi us too early, but taken with a series of works, among the best ever will be. Read and understand this book, Jimi person, full of sound and fury, and a huge heart with a tender soul.

Give credit to Charles Cross on a Jimi Hendrix to take such an icon. Note the large differences of the comments on this site, Jimi had fans here and they are obsessive, judgmental about the content of the book. People had a picture of 35 years developing their “Jimi” and a biography of fact, a disturber of myths and legends. Essentially what this book was I, that Jimi Hendrix was sensitive, gentle in nature, with the guitar, very sexually obsessed, had a sense of humor, a drunken evil, and oh yes, a musical genius. />
It is a great book
The secret, and I think the secret is, as has become an outstanding musician Hendrix. There were many other guitarists, Hired Guns, in the Tour bands in the 60s, but Hendrix synthesized his musical experiences in ways no one yet never done before.
The best book is in the early years. The weakness of this book is beautiful in the last few years — and or a short paper on their brilliant recording career. “Electric Ladyland” is one of the most amazing rock albums of all time poll, has a chapter on these meetings was solely written and other chapters of its equipment, technology, those who were influenced by him (Robin Trower, Stevie Ray, etc. etc. ). Heck, a whole book has been on the achievement of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue “album, an album written just as important in the world of jazz.
So, for the readers of this musician bio, there is not much information about the music of Jimi in terms of technical things. But despite this shortcoming, the book is to be read is essentially a must for any fan of the music of Jimi Hendrix.
